AVG or AVAST ??

I liked EZ well enough and it somehow gave me a sort of reassurance
in the
fact that it was a paid for product but Avast seems to do the job
with no
hassle (apart from those stupid voice messages sounding like
something from
a bad bible movie).

I was also something of an evangelist for ezAV. Had used it since it was
free and happily paid for it when it became a bought product.

I have used it since the InoculateIT days as well, moved onto the paid
version and updated it every year since. I have had no trouble updating
the program to the current version.

I was slightly taken aback when they tripled the cost of the updates
this year but, after a bit of thought, decided to update anyway - it's a
good AV solution.

I now find that they are giving out a free copy to anyone who asks for
one. They obviously tripled the update price so that those of us who
were loyal to the application would cover some of the loss of sales
caused by the free version. Nice!

I hope it works for them but I, for one, won't be updating my ezAV (or
Pest Patrol) subscription next year.

I recently started using Avast and I was so impressed by the whole package I
just bought the professional version.I really like the script blocker
function.Avast caught several viruses on my machine that AVG didn't and i
like some of the skins you can apply. It's easy to use, protects much better
than I expected and doesn't slow my machine down..RH710

Hi Ian.......

I too have used EZ Trust since the InoculateIT PE days......and I am still
using it. I paid for it for 3 years, I believe.

I wrote them and asked if they allowed me to go to the free Microsoft
version. "Yes. No Problem." Even tho it says on the website that previous
customers can't.

My free MS version is coming up for renewal in 3 days. I fully intend to
d/l another free version. I happen to like the product and the cost is
perfect (G).

Why not do the same??

Cheers.......Heather

I probably would have done, even though it violates the T&C, if I had
known about it when I renewed my subscription a couple of months ago. I
haven't been reading the various AV newsgroups for some time (no need as
I was happy with ezAV) so I didn't know about the free offer.

Are you saying the free offer has been going for a year? If so that
makes the tripling of the upgrade price even worse - I _really_ feel put
upon now!

Please let us know if that works. I assumed that the free version was
a free trial like the other downloads on the Microsoft site and that
you would need to pay for continued use after the trial period ended.

Hi Ian & David......

Well.....I just downloaded a free trial of EZ Trust for another
year.....with absolutely no problems!!!! Expiry date is 8/27/2006.

My current version (the free MS Armor one) was up in two days and I got a
warning, so I prowled around and then went to the link for the free trial
and downloaded it. I did change just my last name (to an English version,
lol) and my email address to my Yahoo one. The rest of the info I left the
same (address, phone number, etc).

I removed the prior versions, rebooted and then installed the new freebie
one. It is version 7.0.6.7 and the latest defs.

Go ahead and do it......seems they either do not mind or care. I still had
the old one on here when I downloaded the new one. So nothing was obviously
checked on my computer. The link follows.......

Good luck.......Heather

It seems reliable for preventing an infection, but worthless for getting rid
of one. It gave me a false positive which it didn't recognize nor know how
to get rid of. There is no virus database available for viewing details of a
particular virus, like with some others, so when you get infected you are
left on your own resources and ingenuity. They claim otherwise but it is a
lie.

Yeah, I did that, and replaced it with a simple little .wav sound, but can't
figure out how to turn off that stupid blue popup box from systray everytime
it updates. I put in a 15 second delay so my email gets checked first when I
startup, but still it's an annoyance. A simple little .wav sound is plenty
of a reminder for me. Their blue popup box is overkill.
