AVG Free 7 forcing reboot after update

Does anyone know why my AVG Free is acting this way?

After all minor updates it says it must reboot the machine for the
changes to take effect. The icon on the sys tray becomes gray.

It didn't work like that when I switched to AVG 7... in the beginning
it wouldn't force me to reboot after every update.

Might try asking in the AVG forums.

Non sequitur. Your reply is not pertinent.

Most updates require NO reboot. Indeed, I can't remember one that did.

There must be something wrong with the OP's system.

Your suggestion is is not a solution. He'll still have to reboot to get the
update to stick. The rest of us don't have that problem.

Sorry, but I just updated and got the message that it will require a reboot for
the changes to take effect, but it did ask if I wanted toor not. I rebooted
and immediately went back to update and another update of 590.5 kb downloaded.
This one did not require a reboot however. What ever changes the first one
made, it triggered Zone Alarm to ask again for permission for the updater to
access the web. By the way this is the second time in the last two or three
updates that this occurrence of rebooting has taken place (both times were
rather large downloads)

There have been a couple of major program updates recently, in
addition to the usual virus definition updates. The program updates
will, of necessity, require a reboot to replace files active in
memory. The virus definitions do not.

I've had AVG 7 since December. It has never asked me to reboot after an
update.

Why does the same program give such disparate results?

Disparate users.

Sometimes they do, from my experience. The "priority update" I
downloaded a couple of days ago did, as a matter of fact.

Perhaps you have your update properties set to update at the next
computer restart instead of immediately?
