AVG Email scanning

The Email Scanner in my free version of AVG has stopped scanning my emails
again. It has been working brilliantly along-side the McAfee Security Centre
for months, but today it just stopped working, I think I could have a LOB
Trojan virus again as Ad-Aware keeps putting something into quarantine every
time I use it. Everything else looks working fine in AVG and McAfee, unless
they both have missed killing this virus if indeed I do have one? This
happened a while back and someone told me make a change is the set-up and it
started to work again, but I can't remember what the changes were. Can
someone please tell me again? Thank you.

Do yourself a favour-stop using Outlook Express.Try Thunderbird.
Are you running real-time scanning in both AVG and McAfee at the same
time? If so-stop. Do not advance to go. Read info below. Post back with
results.

I must get a GUN and shoot myself. I was following the advice from 'What's
in a Name' so I clicked on the two links UPDATE and SHOW HIDDEN FILES in the
Virus and Remove page that 'What's his Name' sent me. These links were fine
but when I clicked to the blue link in the SAFE-MODE part in the VIRUS
REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS link, I made a vital error. I clicked the button in
this page that I was viewing, that said, start-up in SAFE MODE, instead of
leaving the setting at normal start-up mode. Now I can't start-up my
computer in a normal mode no matter what I try, and to make matters worse, I
cleaned out my restore points at the same time, thinking that there might be
a virus being held there and now I can't restore my computer to another
date. I have tried all the start-up options in safe mode but the computer
just reverts back to safe mode when it boots up again. I can't believe that
I could have been that stupid. I have over 11GB of software on my computer
that I don't want to lose, but, I don't know what I have do to remove this
problem and to get my computer up-and-running again in normal mode? Also I
can't find any reference to the software that did this on my computer. When
you all stop laughing can someone please suggest what I can do to remove the
command that is telling the computer to start-up in Safe Mode? I have had to
use an old computer of mine to send this message. Don't say get a gun I'm
already looking for one.

Try Start/Run/ and enter "msconfig" (without the quotes), then select
normal startup.

Worst case is to start with a second, new HD and setup a minimal boot
systemwith the same OS.
Then make that drive the boot HD (Primary Master) and the old one as
a secondary (primary Slave or Secondary Master).
Boot up and copy all personal stuff, shut down, remove old drive and
see if you can reboot properly.
If so, then re-install the 10,001 programs you had on the old drive.
Maybe do not install proggies that you do not really need / use; tat
may cut you back to a few thousand.

You used Nick's safe-mode tool?
Run the tool again and tell it to boot up normally.

I can't get on the internet to run anything because I can't get out of
safe-mode. I also can't find any software that I ran, relating to this
problem I have? Nothing shows up in my add/remove choice in the control
panel to remove anything that I might have downloaded?

The first link took you to norton's instructions on using safe-mode.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/200105240942040
6?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam
The second pointed to Nick's safe-mode tool.
http://www.superadblocker.com/bootsafe.html
On Nick's site there were two choices-download a exe or zip version.
You must have run the tool and now your system is in a "locked state"
of safe-mode.Run the tool again and choose reboot in normal-mode.It
should still be in the folder(or desktop) where you downloaded it to.

My thanks to all for your advise, the matter in now solved. I did what David
W. Hodgins said and that solved my problem. I use Windows Defender (Beta 2)
and the dam thing keeps on making all sorts of things on my computer without
asking me first. I think I preferred the previous bit of windows thingy
(beta 1)?

Nice one. Your right WINA? This computer is nearly two years old now, but
considering I still have the last three computers I bought, I think the
old-lady would be more than a bit upset with me. Yea, a very nice thought.
