Avast right click scanning - why more files than scanned?

I've just started using Avast 4.5 in place of AVG and have a concern about
scanning via the right click menu.

Clicking on a single file for example and choosing Scan often reports that
it has actually scanned 2 files - why so?

What type of "file" are you checking?
If you are downloading unknown files you need to check them with more
than 1 scanner.

Maybe the on demand scanning process triggers the on access scanner. Does it happen when on access is
off and you scan on demand?

Dunno - I've gone back to AVG.
