Avant Browser problem

Hi, all.
Tripod added a layer of advertising and my Avant Browser can't seem to
handle it.

Tripod started tossing up some kind of sidebar overlay that loads after
the page and displays "similar websites".
The problem is that with Avant browser, after the 'sidebar' part loads,
the whole screen flips over to the sidebar contents only, obscuring or
displacing the website's index page.

I tried visiting my Tripod site and others without Avant, using IE6.
The sites showed fine and I was able to click-close the sidebar.

Is this display problem the result of some Avant-option setting?

In the meantime, I'm moving my website to a less intrusive hosting
service.

No help. Not a word there about Tripod sidebars, although they've been
using them since late April.
Guess I'll have to register with yet another message board in order to
ask the question there.
Would have been nice to find the answer here in the open.

I've posted your query on the AB forums (just incase you don't fancy
registering).

I'll post any replies here for you ;o)

Get a spyware/malware cleaner such as Adaware or Spybot. This is not an
Avant issue.

I run Adaware now. This is not a spyware matter.
It's how Tripod has decided to add yet another layer of ads to the free
sites.

You can add "*.tripod.com" to your Restricted Sites list in Internet
Options. This would stop SCRIPTS from running. Of course, if your
site depended on SCRIPTS, it would be screwed. The code that opens
the sidebar is this:

window.onload = function () {
setKeywordCookie('adkeyword');
// buildExitHandler();
launchSidebar('sidebar.tripod.com', 'adkeyword');

You could create a simple REG file for folks to download from your
site. Or, you could get a program like Proxomitron, which could
easily remove the function from all tripod sites.
