Autorun fails on Microsoft-issued Vista Beta 2 DVD

The Microsoft-issued Vista Beta 2 DVD does not run when inserted into the
player under WinXP for an upgrade installation. I can boot from the DVD and
enter the installation process, but it will only allow me to do a 'clean'
install - not an upgrade. Are others experiencing this failure right out of
the box?

Thanks for your response. I do not understand what you are asking. My bios
is set up to do the cascading boot process, i.e. disk0, cdrom, floppy. I
don't know of another way to boot. Your further suggestions are very welcome.

Further detail about the Autorun issue: When I double-click on Setup.exe in
the root directory of the Beta 2 DVD, I get the informative message :
"Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

Dumb question.

are you sure you're using the 32-bit Beta 2 DVD?

That's a normal error message if you try to run setup.exe from the 64-bit
Vista DVD from within Windows.

Thanks for your interest in this issue. Yes, I am using the 32-bit Beta DVD.
I have the same issue with the 64-bit Beta DVD. If you have further
suggestions, I am happy to address them.

change it so that the CD/DVD is first in boot sequence.

Partial solution: I entirely removed NAV from the system. 'Disabling' NAV
apparently was not enough. I also copied the entire DVD to a new partition
and ran 'Setup.exe' from there. This action installed the Vista Beta,
although I still cannot boot to VIsta because of a BSOD referring to one of
the hard drives.

I had the same problem. I have 2 cdroms and in the bios, they had the master
and slave mixed up. I switched the slave to the master and master to slave
and no more problems.

I had a similar problem with my DVD as well. I was using the 32 bit (x86)
DVD in WinXP. I kept getting the error message that the autorun.dll
"/sources/autorun.dll" was invalid or corrupt when I tried to run the DVD in
XP. I got the same error message when executing the setup.exe in the root
directory. When I ran the setup.exe in the /sources directory, it ran but
then eventually timed out saying that it could not copy the files to the C
drive. I have over 80GB free on C so I know it wasn't a space issue.

When I booted from the DVD the install went fine, but I have a problem with
the Dlink wireless card, but thats another thread.
