autorun/detect

I have a fresh installation of SP2 w/all updates.
I tried installing EZ Creator 6. Install went all
right but couldn't find my DVD burner. So I uninstalled
EZ Creator.

Now my autodetect or autorun or autoplay. Whatever it's
called doesn't work. And when I go to any optical drive
I can get in, but the name of the CD/DVD in the drive
is not reflected as the drive name.

PowerDVD can play any DVD wonderfully.

Is there a way to enable my autoplay?

Thank you

Two ways,

Option 1:

* open Windows Explorer, right-click on the CD Drive & select Properties
* select the 'Autoplay' tab
* select a format from the drop-menu
* check 'Select an action to perform', click OK
Note:
You can also select 'Restore Defaults'

Option 2:

* Start > Run > type regedit, OK
* navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom
* double-click 'autorun'

Values:
Turn off CD autoplay: 0
Turn on CD autoplay: 1

I have it set as you suggested and it worked great. I then
installed EZ Creator 6 and now the autoplay doesn't work and
EZ Creator can't find my DVD burner. This combination of
drive and software worked fine on my last computer w/SP2.

I have the internal to XP burning turned off.

Any suggestions?

thank you,

Sorry, but I use Nero instead of EZ Creator. However, when I look in the
same folder as the 'autorun' key
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom), I see another
key named 'AutoRunAlwaysDisable'. It's data consists of certain brands of CD
Players that will use this key (I'm assuming).
The Data (CD Player brands) are:
NEC MBR-7
NEC MBR-7.4
PIONEER CHANGR DRM-1804X
PIONEER CD-ROM DRM-6324X
PIONEER CD-ROM DRM-624X
TORiSAN CD-ROM CDR_C36

It's a long shot but maybe this key also exists in your registry? If it does
and you have this brand of CD Player, then this is probably your issue.
Right-click & 'Export' the 'Cdrom' folder to back it up, then delete the
'AutoRunAlwaysDisable' key.
