I had the same problem with the same camera. My problem was solved by
disabling my McAfee virus and firewall software. Do what you need to do with
the camera and then re-enable McAfee. Works every time for me.

Having similar problem with Fuji A210 camera. Done a lot to remedy this
overnight and won't attempt to bore you with the saga. The Autofix tool also
reported everything being fantastic but still no luck. Autoplay works
properly on my CD/DVD drives just not the camera. I also have a problem with
an HP 4600 Scanner. They both use USB 2.0 and that's the only common thread
on that clue.

AV and firewall reinstalls seem misdirected.

I am having the same, exact problem. I have downloaded and run the Autoplay
Fix, and I click on the hard drive icon, and I get the msg that this is not
an area supported by Autoplay or whatever. Well, the problem certainly isn't
on my floppy drive!

So, now what? This happened on both my and my husband's machines at the
exact same time. It has to do with one of these nifty Microsoft Updates,
we're fairly certain. So, now that they've 'ruined' my camera, HOW DO I FIX
IT? The Autoplay Repair Wizard does *not* work.

Maybe it's time for a Mac?

Hi Hunca,

It's been awhile since that post but I did fix the problem. Now I have to
remember what it was that I did ...hmm. Well I can tell you that it wasn't
the fault of Microsoft but rather that of Fuji. Still let me dig through
some records and see if I can help you with what worked for me.

Hi Dale...

You know what?! I actually got it fixed! I dug around here a little more and
found out that some ppl were having trouble with a file from RealPlay --
realshed.exe. Seems this file somehow interferes or disables the Autoplay
function of WindowsXP.

Some of the more tech-adventurous have gone in via misconfig or other ways
and simply re-named that particular file, which seems to also fix the
problem, but I am not that comfortable messing around in my internal file
structures, so I simply uninstalled RealPlay, and THAT did the trick!

So, in *my* case, it was because of this file of RealPlay's, and I guess
it's not entirely fair to say it's a Microsoft problem, tho you'd think one
of their updates could include an Autoplay protection device that would have
to be manually toggled on or off by the user so that the Autoplay function
couldn't be 'overtaken' by another program like RealPlay.

I wrote to RealPlay, too, and told them their file had affected my digicam
useage, and that I didn't appreciate it one little bit. I know we download
these types of things for free, but still, they shouldn't interfere with your
system or other equipment like that, imo.

Fuji was definitely not interested in hearing about this... all they want to
do is pass the buck to Microsoft, so that is the LAST Fuji product I will
*ever* buy. Their customer support is AWFUL.

I'd still be interested to hear how you fixed yours, tho, Dale, whenever you
get the chance. Thanks so much!!

Eureka, that's it! I couldn't remember what I'd done. I too found a lone
forum discussing the problem with the Fuji camera and it's relationship to
Real Player. I too simply said "Asta la Vista Baby" to Real Player and
everything began to work again.

That's awesome that you wrote to them and complained. It's so difficult to
find the time to do all that. I hope company's like Fuji and especially Real
Player place a proper weight to those complaints that do get back to them.
This is a genuine nuicanse issue.

Regards,
Dale

I have a Fuji A340 camera. I can not automatically download pics from the
camera to my PC. I conrtacted Fuji and they said this was a Wondows autoplay
funtion "known" error and suggested that I download the autoplay detect and
correct wizard. I did so. The wizard said it would not work on local drive C
where I tried to use it. Suggestions?

My ideas are twofold:

First read the information above about Real Player and if you have it
installed either remove it or disable the features that are know to be
problematic with the Autoplay functions of the Fuji camera.

Secondly, my idea on why you cannot run a program is on the fundamental side
of having the proper elevated priviledges on your WinXP user account. You
should check and make sure that your account your are using is an "Computer
Administrater" account and not a "limited" account. Change as needed.

I'll watch this thread for any further responses.

Good luck,
Dale

I don't have an answer for why the Fuji Camera stopped interacting, but
I have an easy workaround. Forget about connecting the camera directly
to the computer. Instead, get a usb card reader and just insert your
camera's memory card in that. Windows will see the card reader as a
removable drive and you can drag, copy, drop, delete, rename, etc. from
the memory card just like from any other drive. Just make sure you buy
a card reader that is compatible with your camera memory. An additional
upside to doing this is that you don't need the camera to be on, using
up its battery, while you work with your pictures. The usb card readers
are quite inexpensive - mine was under $30usd.
