Automatically removing temporary internet files (Win XP Pro)

G

Guest

Hello Everyone!

Is there a service in Windows XP Pro that can enable you to periodically
clear out the temporary internet files other than having to go into Internet
Options and then manually clicking the "Delete Files" button?

The idea here is that I would like to clear out these temporary files once
every two weeks automatically.

Do I need to create a script and get it into Scheduled Tasks?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Cheers,
Rene

I clean mine out several times a day.

Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
Scroll down to the bottom | Check: Empty Temporary Internet Files folder
when browser is closed | Click Apply | Click OK

You can also use many 3rd party utilities, I use Disk Cleaner. I like it,
so I recommend it.

I have Disk Cleaner set to run quiet at startup. Runs for 5 seconds or so
and exits. I also like the fact that, after you set it up, it cleans all
the following with one click (and/or automatically at boot). Makes XP's
Disk Cleanup look like a piker. XP's Disk Cleanup will *not* clean
Content.IE5.

Disk Cleaner will Clean:
Temporary Internet Files {Including the contents of the Content.IE5 folder}
Internet Cookies
Internet History
System Temporary Folder
Recent Documents
Run... Dialog List
Find Document List
Find Computer List
URLs in IE Address Bar
URLs in Shell Address Bar
Media Player Recent URLs
WinZip Recent Files
WinZip Extract To Folders
Paint Recent Files
WordPad Recent Files
Cleans Recycle Bin (what else?)
Opera Cache
Opera Cookies
Opera History
Opera Visited links
Opera Download History and Download folder
Firefox Cache
Firefox Cookies
Firefox History

Hi,

You do realize that a) you can reduce the disk size allotted to the TIF's
don't you? and b) that once full, the older, unused stuff gets deleted as
new stuff is written. Basically, unless there is some corruption of the
TIF's, there is no need to periodically delete the contents. To answer your
question, no there is no service to do this, you'd have to write a simple
batch file and either schedule it or add it to the user's startup group.

Yes you can schedule Disk Cleanup at whatever intervals you wish and
applicable the files you want to clean. Go to Control Panel>Scheduled
Tasks>and Add the Scheduled Task.

Here is a recommended great free utility program that is very easy to use
and just run it right before you shutdown your computer each time. It'
CCleaner version 1.27.260 http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp.
It's also easy to download and install. One of the best!

IE has an advanced option "Empty Temporary Internet Files on exit"
This will remove page content, but leave cookies. I use this and set it
up on most all Broadband customer's PC. It's a convenient feature to
keep the cache purged out automatically.

This would create increased internet usage (having to request pages you have
already visited). Just set the Temporary Internet Files Size to a realistic
value (it defaults to over 2Gb).
