Automatically insert date does not work.

I have checked the AutoCompleteSuggestions so that Word 2003 will
automatically insert current date. I type "Sept" and get the prompt to press
Enter to complete the auto inserting of the current date. The month of
September is then completed. When I press the spacebar, it moves one space
but does not complete the date! I cannot get the program to complete the
date. It does not work. Please help. Thank you.

Hi Pat

I think the only way to get Word to insert today's date is to use Insert >
Date and Time. When you type "Sept" Word expands this to "September", as
you've seen, but it does not insert the rest of the date.

Hope this helps.

If you reject Word's first offer of help, however, and complete the typing
of "September" manually, then after you type the space following
"September," you'll be prompted with the entire date.

Thank you for your reply. In versions of Word prior to 2003, when I typed
"Sept" I would get a prompt to press "Enter". When I pressed Enter I would
get "September". I then pressed the Space Bar it would give me today's
date: "September 19, 2003". I cannot get this to work like that using Word
2003. Was this feature deleted from Word 2003? Seems to me that it should
still be there and that I just do not have the correct settings to activate
it. Previously, I did not have to type out the entire month in order for the
auto insertion to work. Thank you.

This is a bug that is experienced inconsistently by all Word users. Many of
us saw it in Word 97, 2000, and 2002 as well. There is no known cause, fix,
or workaround. Sorry.

Using Office 2007 I notice that if my document is in Draft view, then the
Automatically insert the current date
feature works, that is, if I type the beginning of a month name I have the
option of pressing Enter to get the date.

But if I view the document in Print view, then the date feature does not work.

I dislike the draft view however, as after awhile it starts leaving bad
lines on the screen and showing false images.
