Automatic Windows Updates

I had my computer set for Automatic Download of Windows Update. It
has downloaded (and ready for install) and OLDER version of a driver
for my NVIDIA card than what I already have installed. Where can I go
in Windows Explorer to delete download and how do I remove the icon in
my System Tray? Thanks ... Michael Mauzey

Try the following.

Open Device Manager {right click on My Computer, select Properties and than
the Hardware tab. Click of Device Manager}.
Under Display Adaptors right click on your NVIDIA entry and select
Properties.
Select Driver tab.
Click on Roll Back.

My understanding is that Windows Automatic Update only downloads critical
updates. A driver update is not a critical update. No sure why Automatic
Update updated your driver.

Thanks ... but I stopped the update from automatically installing ...
I still have my current driver installed. I just want to delete the
update info from my harddrive and delete the icon from my System tray.
Thanks ... Michael

On a couple of my XP machines, manual update has been showing NVidia and
another driver in the critical updates - finally I just let them install,
then reinstalled the more current drivers from the manufacturers.

In a related vein, on some other machines the updater is reporting that I
have driver updates available, but when I click on the link to the page, I
get a "page not found" error. So even if I wanted them, I can't have them.

Some relief comes from using the newer Version 5 of the Windows updater.
After executing Tools/Windows Update, when the url in your address bar
reads: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp change the "v4"
to "v5" to download the new updater. Its format is different, takes a bit
to get used to it. But it makes it easy to hide those updates you don't
want.
