automatic updates

I have automatic updates running, yet I still get "reminded" to update
CONSTANTLY. Why?

How would I PERMANENTLY delete the yellow update icon near the clock? There
is no delete option.

One of your updates is failing to install. There are several options,one of
which is to refuse the update by turning off automatic update, and using the
'custom' option to use the 'don't ask me again' checkbox.
