automatic updates

i am on xp pro SP2 i did the automatic updates (critical) and once i rebooted
my computer will not boot - i tried booting into safe mode, safe mode with
command prompt and all it does is keep rebooting my machine - is there
anything that can be done without having to reinstall xp? this is an extreme
pain and had i known this was going to happen - i would have not installed
the critical updates....
