Automatic update restart

When an automatic update happens there is a messagebox that says the
computer will restart in a given length of time and then there is 2 buttons
restart now which is enabled and another button restart later which is
disabled. What do I need to do so that thsi button is enabled? I was in
the middle of something and this is a major annoyance that it shut me down
when it did.

The "Restart Later" button is only enabled for accounts that are
Administrators or members of the Administrators group.

If this is your personal system, then what you'd need to do is change your
user status from a regular user to an administrative user.

If this is a corporate system, there's probably not much you can do.

I understand that you were annoyed by this; however, the nature of the
update that was applied in the past couple of days is severely critical, and
I imagine the IT Professional in your organization who is in charge of
maintaining updates wanted this installed ASAP.

Unfortunately, they should have notified you to expect this situation.

At a minimum though, when the system tells you that you have five minutes
before it reboots, you should take that very seriously and make arrangements
to not be "in the middle of something" when that five minute counter runs
out.
