automatic private address issue

Currently I am experiencing a problem with regards to automatic private address. During the previous state of my computer I was able to surf the web via wireless adapter, netgear WG111T and a wireless router WG614v6. However, when I formatted my computer, I am unable to surf the web. I have tried uninstalling and installing the drivers numerous of times but no results. Then I manage to drag a network cable (CAT5) connecting to the built on network card on the motherboard. The drivers for the network card are up to date. Still no use. Furthermore, I directly connected the computer to my cable router and the results are nothing same old, automatic private address. I have tried ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew and configuring ip address manually but no good. How can I resolve this issue? Thank you in advance.
