I have cable high speed internet connected to two computers through an
ethernet router. If I do not go online to browse, the connection disconnects.
The only way I can get it to reconnect is to reboot my computer; it will not
reconnect if I just log off and log on again. If I stay connected to a
specific site it remains connected. Is there some adjustment in WinXP that I
need to make to stay connected even when I am not using the internet? Using
Win XP, SP2

Go to Device Manager and find the entry for your network adapter.
Double-click it to get its Properties. Click on the Power Management
tab and disable allowing Windows to turn off the device.
