Automatic Certificate Enrollment/ Win XP Pro

Greetings,
We have a few Windows XP Pro machines at work that create
the following Event Log "error"

"Automatic Certificate Enrollment for local system failed
to contact the Active Directory. The specified Domain
either does not exist or could not be contacted.
Enrollment could not be performed"
Event ID: 15

Although the machines are on our Domain, we are currently
not using AD, and the XP machines were not setup for
Automatic Enrollment of Certificates.

Is there a setting somewhere in which we can turn off
this "request"?
I have searched the MS KB, but I found nothing concrete on
this.
