Automated System Recovery

Can someone explain what I may be doing wrong when I try
to make a disc with my system settings in the backup
program. Have followed the directions that tell me to go
to backup, which opens Backup or restore wizard, then
select advanced mode, then tools, and ASR wizard starts.
This tells me I will get an ASR disk of system files, but
always starts by trying to save my entire hard drive
instead. I assumed that I would be able to get my system
files on one disc. I just want to make sure I have a
recovery disc to start up the computer in case of a
problem. Help?

ASR backs up your system... as a whole. It's described as a 2-step
process. One, it will backup your system to a file (another drive
preferably, with loads of available space, 2 GB+). Two, it creates a
startup disk on a floppy. If you just want to create a startup disk,
ASR is not it.

The most basic thing you can do for handling failure is to use System
Restore, under > Control Panel > System > System Properties > System
Restore. Make sure the drive containing your system files has a status
of "Monitoring", and have at least 1 GB disk space usage ( > Settings)
