autologon

I just purchased a Toshiba Protege with win XP pro service pak 2 installed.
It works fine but was configured to bypass the login window. I changed the
administrator password, but it still doesn't require me to logon (which I
want to do for security purposes).

How can I reconfigure it to go through the windows login step, e.g., turn
autologon OFF? (Hopefully, without having to do things to the registry!) I
can't find anything on the internet addressing this issue except for one
description (complicated) of how to turn autologon ON.

Go to Start -> Run and enter control userpasswords2 in the Open
box.
Click OK.
In User Accounts, put a check mark in the box next to "Users
must enter a user name and password to use this computer".
Click OK.
Reboot to see if you get the desired result.

Good luck

That was useful information to know. However, I was incorrect about my
problem-I actually had a blank p/w for an administrator account I set up (and
subsequently forgot about!) when I purchased the laptop. The lesson for me
is to keep better record of my configuration.
