AutoCorrect selection do not hold.

Nearly a year ago now, my AutoCorrect Selections, such as 1st, 1/2, and
capitalize first letter of sentenance, quit holding. Everytime I opened my
Word 2003 I had to reset my selections. I asked for help on this subject in
this forum quite some time ago and received a very quick response directing
me to "My menus and toolbars are missing and won't come back" at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm. I immediatly
tried the /a switch. As long as I had at least one Word docu open and reset,
all other docus opened in other windows would have the same settings. I'm set
to open in another window. When I closed all Word docus the settings would
reset to default. When I read the instructions for "Deleting and recreating
the corrupt registry values" all I could see was the part about diddling in
the Registry and that scared me away. After a couple more months of putting
up with the crap I finally screwed up my courage and tackled the diddling
part. The instructions were surprisingly clear and I think I completed the
task successfully. All my systems seemed to still be in working order and I
could open and close all docu windows and the AutoCorrect selections would
hold as desired. The next day, after turning my computer on, I checked the
AutoCorrect selections. They had all reverted to the default settings. It's
now been about a month since then and I'm getting tired of all the crap again
and finally ready to try anything else. Anybody got any ideas they would care
to share? Thanks, K.

I was less timid than you and had no hesitation about editing the Registry;
I also had an Options setting that kept getting reset, so I deleted the
Registry key, but this didn't fix it. I recorded an AutoExec macro to set
the setting properly, and even that didn't work. What turned out to be the
problem was a poorly written add-in. Since it was loading after Normal.dot,
it was undoing what my AutoExec macro had done and overwriting the Registry
settings. After I removed the add-in from Word's Startup folder, I had no
further problems.

Thank You Ms Barnhill, I am quite anxious to try the procedure that worked
for you. Would you know how I might learn where my Word's Startup Folder is
located, and once there how to recognize an add-in? Appreciate your help, K.
