Hi,
~
while using IE if browsing google some of my students in a computer
lab have noticed google passwords are autocompleted by just typing the
first letter of the user id
~
I am not sure to which extent this is related to IE and/or google
(other sites out there), but this behavior needs to be stopped.
~
Why is this happening?
~
How do you do that?
~
Thanks

It's a feature called "AutoComplete". You can restrict it's use from
Internet Options, Content (TAB), AutoComplete (Button).

"How to use the AutoComplete feature in Internet Explorer 5 and 6".
1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Content tab.
3. Click AutoComplete.
4. Click the appropriate AutoComplete check boxes, or click Clear Forms or
Clear Passwords to clear all saved items from the appropriate AutoComplete

5. Click OK, and then click OK.

This assumes that you are browsing with Internet Explorer. Having said that
....,

Right-click on the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop. Select
"Properties" > "Internet Options" > click the "Content" tab > click the
"Auto Complete" button. Uncheck "Forms", uncheck "User names and
passwords...", uncheck "Prompt me to save passwords". Below that click the
"Clear Forms" button and the "Check Passwords" button. Click OK to close the
Auto Complete Settings dialog, click OK again to close the Properties
dialog.

Repeat this procedure on any other PC in the lab.

Two things are happening there. One, the usual system operations concerning
auto-complete.
And the other, Google is going out during idle moments and looking for
related hits based on past searches. So, you went to Xyz once, and the next
time you type X, you get x files, x imports, x awards, x stuff, and on and
on. Google is trying to interpret where you might want to search next.
That can also be turned off in the toolbar settings.

Hi,

This has to do with passwords that are saved via the system. If you write
me privately, I will tell you how it works and believe it or not .... how
simple it really is to do.

Checkpoints to consider in the meantime:

Suggestions:

1. Documents and Settings\<username>\App
Data\Microsoft\Credentials\<SID>\Credentials
2. Cookies
3. AutoComplete and Vcard and how they work

Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2. Advanced/Manage
Passwords/Remove.

Tip:

Add Control Userpasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)
