Autochk (chkdsk) unwanted silent running

I have a Samsung Q10 laptop running Windows XP Professional with the latest
drivers for the graphics chip. If autochk (the version of chkdsk that runs
on start-up) is invoked then the screen remains blank whilst it is running.
There is no display of countdown, progress or results so all you get is a
blank screen, a lot of hard disk activity and no way of telling what is going
on. The only way of telling what happened is to read the event log
afterwards (so I know autochk did actually run!).

Is there any way to restore the display, which is perfectly normal at all
other times?

This program runs when abnormal shutdown detected. Roll-back display driver
or do system restore from safe mode to a point before driver install. If that
doesn't work you may be able to restore just the drivers from factory
recovery disk but be careful to make the right selection if not back-out.
Also call your manufactor on how to use your recovery disk to reinstall just
the driver's. They love to reset your computer to the way it came from the
factory, less work for them.
