Autocheck

The problem is that the WinXP operating system tries to
start, gets to the "Hardware Profile/Configuration
Recovery Menu" screen, turns to the next blue screen, show
the following message and keeps rebooting over and over:

"Autochk program not found - Skipping Autocheck"

What is it looking for and how can I direct it to find
it?

It probably can't find it because your drive is trashed partially or fully. The recovery console canm only repair disk errors if the disk isn't too damaged as it uses (stupidly) files on the disk. Put it into another machine and get off what you can THEN run chkdsk on it in the other machines. Drives plug in and out easily.

If you boot the XP CD and enter Recovery console and run chkdsk from
there it says it will look on the hard drive and if it doesn't find it
then on the Windows CD for autochk.exe. I thought that's stupid, too.
