Auto Update?

I am running Windows Defender (which i a must say seems like a downgrade from
the original MS anti-spyware), and I know I can update the defs through the
help and also through Windows Updates. Is there an automatic update that
takes place, so that users do not have to get involved in updating the
signatures? I use WSUS to push updates down to clients, so it's not going to
be detected through auto updates on the client side, unless they physically
go to the Windows update site. Any thoughts?

You can set it to auto-update prior to running a scan

The update within the program, which can be automatic as the other response
indicates, uses AutoUpdate, which you can make go to WSUS.

WSUS can distribute the Windows Defender definitions. See the info below
from another users post in these groups, by Cheong:
-------------
If your windows update is pointing to your local WSUS, then you must include
the Windows Defender in synchronization setting.
In Products selection, please include Windows Defender
In Update classifications, please include Definition Updates

You must synchronize the server and approve the definition for clients to
get the latest definition.
