Word 2000
Yes, ir still exisits and works fine!!

My problem if I type _anything_ it's displayed as anyhting
i.e. automatically italicised
and I can't find where to turn this off.

Well, if you're not too embarased to admit that you're old enough to know about this version of word, your advice would be appreciated.

I can tell you where to find it in Word 2003, and I think from that I can
extrapolate back to Word 2000. In 2003, it's Tools | AutoCorrect Options |
AutoFormat As You Type: Replace as you type: *Bold* and _italic_ with real
formatting. My guess is that it will be pretty much the same in Word 2000
except that the menu item is just Tools | AutoCorrect.
