auto logoff/log on issues

Hello-
When one of us is logged on to Win 2000, and the systems
times out and logs us off (good for security reasons) and
a new person comes by, they cannot log onto the computer
without restarting it. The coputere is utilized in a
central area conference room, and mimics some server
duties. We don't want everyone listed as an admin.

Is there any way to resolve the issue, so if the first
user doesn't forget to logoff, that a new user can log
them off or at least log on with out restartign the
computer?

Thanks!

When you say "The system times out and logs us off",
do you mean that the system really logs you off, or do
you mean that you get a password-protected screen
saver that demands the current user's password?

Hi

A couple of ways to log the user off after a set time of inactivity:

A)

Winexit.scr in the Win2k3 Server RK kit (will work on Win2k and WinXP at least)

Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&DisplayLang=en

(The kit will install on WinXP or later)

If the users are non-admins on the local computer you must add Set Value and
Create Subkey permissions for the group Everyone on this registry key:
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion

How can I use the WinExit screen saver without granting Admin rights?

B)

You could create a scheduled job on each computer that logs the user off after
a set amount of idle time:

Hi~!

I mean it logs off and we get the Password protected
screed saver that needs the PW entered. If it is someone
different wanting to log on, they cannot unless they get
an admin to do it.

Any additional thoughts?

THANKS!

I'm afraid your reply is contradictory:

- Either the system logs you off, in which case you
see a panel that asks you to log in;

- Or the screen saver cuts in, in which case you see
a panel that says "This machine is in use and has
been locked. Only Jamie or an administrator can
unlock this machine.

Which one is it?
