Auto-Login Setting Problem

I am a mortal who has been recklessly fooling with my XP professional
settings. I turned off the login requirement at startup, as I intended to
do, but for some reason now, when the computer sits idle for a short
period, it semi- shuts down. (I think it's hibernating, even though I
thought I set it not to hibernate.)

Anyway, when I return, I have to hit a key, and then my screen lights up
and I get a login dialogue that I have to complete to return to the
desktop.

Question is: How do I turn off this login requirement? (Or the hibernate
trigger?)

Thanks for any guidance.

Right click the Desktop and select Properties, Screen Saver. Uncheck the box On resume...........

Additionally, on the Screen Saver tab, click the Power button and go to Advanced. Uncheck Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby.

Many thanks. Worked like a charm.
