Auto Exposure / Auto Levels

Epson V500 Scanner Software has a default setting of Auto Exposure,
though it can be turned off. Does Adobe PhotoShop's Image -
Adjustments - Auto Levels (or Auto Contrast or Auto Color [which
adjusts Color and Contrast]) accomplish the same result? Looks really
close to me.

The results may look similar, but the action is not the same.

If you do not get the original scan will all the information contained in
the film, then you can not adjust what is not there in PhotoShop.

It is better of adjust the scan to obtain the maximum information from the
film, that means no clipping of the white or black in the histogram in all
three color channels.

The Epson V500 should have a "Professional Mode" that allows adjustment of
all parameters in the scan software (TWAIN interface).
