auto back up

Steve

morning all.
Over the past couple of years, whenever I work on one specific file, I
notice afterwards that there is an xlk file of the same name of the original
file.
I've ignored it until now-- recognizing it as a backup file, but now it's
just getting irritating.

I've checked the automatic backup section, and there is no xlk option in the
save as file of type in the drop down menu of the save directory, for the
excel options.

I guess what's bugging me is that it's the only file out of hundreds that we
work with on a regular basis that does this, and I cannot identify how to
modify the setting.
I checked for macros, but it's an xlsx format, so no macros can be saved in
it (it was among the first dozen or so files that was saved as an xlsx after
we received 2007).

Your helps are deeply appreciated.
Best.

Scratch this request.
I found an old forum post from last year that apparently came over from this
newsgroup.
Thus my question was answered.
Go to the big office button>SaveAs>OtherFormats>Tools>GeneralOptions

This will call up the appropriate option, and save back up can be unchecked.
I have to agree with Dave Peterson's final statement-- all of our files date
back to office 97, so it's highly likely that at some point someone had
checked the always save backups of this particular file and since I'm the
only one now working on it, I always see it each time I saved the workbook,
or created a new, updated version.
