Auto Advance Timer doesn't reset after going back to previous slide

Problem: PowerPoint 2002: Advance slide timer doesn't work after going back to previous slide and restarting presentation.

Details:
Slide1 advances to Slide2 by clicking on Action Button.
Slide2=Auto Advances to Slide 3 using 2 sec. timer (Slide transition is set to Advance Slide after 0:02).
Slide3=Goes to Slide1 by clicking on Action Button.
Problem: On second time thru loop (clicking Button on Slide1) the presentation advances to Slide2 properly but then hangs because the timer doesn't work now.
Additional info: Other means of advancing slide work normally, but not timer. i.e. Clicking on the face of Slide2 does NOT advance the slide (Advance via mouse click box in Slide Transition is not checked), but using arrow keys or right-click/next-slide both work OK.

Does anyone have a solution, trick, or workaround for this problem, or just want to share their grief? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tomu

Timings are reset when a slide is advanced into in a normal fashion. Try
this:

Slide 1 -- same as yours
change the button's link to slide 2
Slide 2 -- Insert new slide with
0:00 second auto-advance
Slide 3 -- your old slide 2
Slide 4 -- your old slide 3

This should work for you.

Hey B! Thanks a lot. Your fix for the stopped PPT timer worked just
fine. I really appreciate it.

All the best,
Tomu

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello Tom,

PowerPoint does not reset animations and slide timings (including
automatically playing inserted multimedia) on a previously viewed slide
when you jump to it from a later viewed slide. Of course, they are reset
when the presentation loops back to the beginning or you navigate
"naturally" to a slide from it's previous slide. Here is a KB article for
PowerPoint 2000 that describes a couple of workarounds (similar articles
exist for other versions of PowerPoint):

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;197701&Product=ppt

If it is important to you (or anyone else reading this message) that
PowerPoint include a method for choosing whether or not animations on
slide(s) replay when revisted without normal looping (perhaps a slide or
presentation option, or a Action Setting which can be chosen during slide
show), without having to resort to VBA or add-ins, don't forget to send
your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
