I used to use 'silent bob'. Tape output to line (or mike ) input, run silent
bob, saves input as a wav, trim start / finish, then convert to mp3

I use Audacity, which also enables you to split up the individual tracks
from the tape, and it can also reduce the tape "hiss".
You can save the result as .wav files for burning to a CD, or as .mp3.
