audio playback stutter

Recently re-built my laptap, and since then experience a very slight
stutter (approx every 30-40 seconds) when playing mp3's or audio cd's. I've
tried both Windows Media Player & Winamp, but it happens with both.

This didn't happen prior to my rebuild, and I'm not running anything major
at the same time. I'm running WinXP with SP2 (as I was before), and the
processor is a Pentium4 2.8 GHz with 512Mb RAM.

Anyone have any ideas?

What other programmes do you have running in the background ? Eliminate some
of them with msconfig. (Start > Run > type msconfig > OK > Start up and weed
em out). These sites can help you :

Try reducing the harware acceleration for your sound card.
