Audio Playback Skips/Echos

I installed a software package that lets you sing with it to tell if you are
on pitch. While using it I noticed the songs that it played skipped &
echoed. The software had some glitches (besides audio) so I uninstalled it.
Now all my audio skips and echoes. My Device Mgr shows no yellow !'s or red
x's. Everything shows that the "Conexant AC-Link Audio" is working properly.
Could their be something left behind from the software previously mentioned?
Any ideas?

As in that software package they advertised on tv (someone actually
purchased
it).....Either way,in device mgr,expand the sound tree,R.click the sound
hardware
one @ a time,select "uninstall" (do not restart pc after each),once
thru,exit device
mgr,shutdown pc.If you have a PCI sound card,power off pc,move the card to
another PCI slot,start pc...XP will reinstall on restarting pc...
