Audio not the same

For audio in a PP 2003 presentation, I am inserting mp3 files.
They sound okay where I record them inside a 3rd party package.
They sound the same when I insert them into the pps file, right click the
icon and play.
However, when I finally click the pulldown menu Slide Show, View Show -- the
volume sound far lower.
Am I doing something wrong?

Right click on the speaker icon on the slide > edit sound object > sound volume

Note this only affects the volume in slide show mode.
