I have an audio driver built in with my motherboard. It's SiS 7018. But i
can't hear any sound now after i formatted my pc as the audio driver is not
detected. My OS is XP...I downloaded the exact audio driver from sis.com but
it won't finish the setup as an error occurs.
In the device manager, for the audio driver it says "code 10"...i don't knw
what that means...I would be so grateful if anyone could help me out with
this!!...thx!!

Could it be the built in soundcard has inadvertantly been disabled in
the bios?

Yes you can enable it back if its been disabled. When your computer boots
enter the BIOS and Check for the Onboard Audio is enabled if its disabled
enable it then Xp should find your onboard sound.

W/regards to BIOS!!
Different computers use different "F" key or "DEL".
During boot up, the info for the particular key req'd should be displayed at
bottom of screen. If screen scrolls to quickly, hit "Pause Break" key to
stop. Hit "Space Bar" to continue. Then press req'd key. May have to try a
couple times.
Look for sound card info in BIOS. Not sure what menu it will be under. Also,
could vary with computer MFG and BIOS.

Here is MS recommended soultion

Code 10
If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string
appears as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry
string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you
receive the following error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Recommended resolution

Device failed to start. Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this
device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to
start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

You might want to see if the mb mfg has a way to get the ini file for the
driver also in the bios youll want to look under onboard devices for the
audio.
