Audio distorted and sluggish in storyboard playback

I capture video and audio with no problems. I create clips and drag them to
the storyboard. When playing the clips from the story board, the video is
okay but the audio is slowed down and distorted. Movie Maker was working fine
until recently; I have created many movies in the past; this is the first
time I have had this problem.

I have not installed any new software, so I am not sure what is conflicting
with Movie Maker.

I thought about uninstalling and re-installing movie maker 2.1, but I cannot
figure out how to uninstall the program. It is not listed in the "Add or
remove software" list under the contral panel. I don't want to delete the
Movie Maker folder from the hard drive; there must be an easy way to
uninstall!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Patrick

MM2.1 is part of SP2, so it is not easy to uninstall it.
Have you added any codec packs to the pc?
Have you tried system restore to when it was working ok?
Have you tried turning off any codecs listed in tools/options/compatibility?
Is the hard drive filling up and/or fragmented? Both would slow down a pc.

I have not added any codecs. I tried system restore (I found an error message
around the time that I started having this issue, so I restored to the last
restore point before the error). This did not help either.

I have plenty of hard drive space (about 180 GB). I could try defragging and
see if that helps. I thought the easiest route would be to unistall ... but
the SP2 truly is an issue!

I am able to import mp3 files and and play music with video from the
storyboard and it is oka. It is only with video that has its own audio track.

I appreciate your suggestions,
Patrick
