Audio Codec Problem

I have a problem by where I can't install any new audio codec's. The .acm or
..ax files are in the right place's and they also appear in the registry in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32,
however when I go to device manager - sound, video and game controllers -
audio codec's, the new codec's do not appear and therefore the software I
wish to use can't find them.

I've tried installing various codec's ( Cyberlink and Intervideo mp3 codec's
to name but a few ), with no luck. I've also removed audio codec's in safe
mode and reinstalled them but this still has not worked.

Does anyone know what could be causing this problem

Thanks

Does your account have administrative rights? They are needed to install
codecs successfully.
