Audacity echos

I have WMCE on a Toshiba Qosmio with Audacity installed. However when I
listen to say BBC Radio 7 (vintage comedy progs) all recordings have a
slight echo. I'm recording using the Audacity 'Stereo Mix' option not from
the 'Mic.' The echo is not noticeable when I listen during recording, but IS
noticeable when I play the recording back. I've heard that this may be
because the sound card is capturing the audio transmission direct, but that
this is duplicated by WMCE via software. It seems that the left channel is
slightly out of kilter with the right channel. The slight delay between the
two captures is what is causing the echo. The only way of stopping this is
to record the transmission then to delete one channel of the recording (L or
R) before saving the result in MP3 format. Has anyone else noticed this
problem? Cheers. CB.

No.

Whats your soundcard ? Do you have the recording option "What Your Hear" ?
Have you tried recording in Mono ? Do you have any effects like reverb or
echo inadvertantly turned on ?

Cheers,

Thank you for responding.

The sound card is built in, I'm not sure what it is.

However I don't have a recording option 'What you hear.' I can't record in
Mono - I can only record in 'Stereo Mix' - then I have to edit out one
channel. I don't have any options like 'reverb' echo etc.

Of course if I record from the built-in 'Mic' then I get echos from the
speakers to the mic to the recording. But 'Stereo Mix' is supposed to take a
recording directly from the sound card. I thonk the problem is that there is
a small delay - probably caused by software - betwen the left and right
channels. So that even if the transmission is mono the recording is not!!
