ATTN: Wookie (Thermalrite Fan 'Q') ...

I am looking at the following: Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler on
Newegg.

I believe this is one of the ones you talk about/mention in your response to
my Q about NON-H2O coolers for high-end AMD 64 X2 procs, (AM2).

If I am seeing/reading this right, there is no fan, just a heatsink? This
enough for a sealed, but fan ventilated (intake & exhaust) case?

Hmmph. Pardon my likely ignorance.

If you don't have a fan you need to buy one. Maybe they are tying to
save money for people that already have fans.

Yes you will need a fan to go with this. Some people get one or 2 0 120 mm
fans. Blowing down on the CPU is the best orientation of the fan.
Newegg sells those too.

You have the extreme linked up .. not sure exactly what the diff is between
the extreme and just the 'normal' ultra 120 .. but in one of the reviews ..
it was ~ 2 degrees.

The Enzotech Ultra-X, did really well in the reviews below.

I got my fan from the Cooler guys .. pretty good place .. good ratings too

SVC is also a good place for the ultra
http://www.svc.com/xp-120-p4-21.html

I have the XP 90 on an ASUS A8N-E MB. It is big. It covers .. or goes over
one of my RAM slots ... there is room over it, but you can't take the RAM
easily without taking off the CPU Cooler. It was pretty easy to install.
I put a Pana Flo fan (Panaflo 92x92x25 Case Fan, Model "FBA09A12" ) on the
CPU .. they are very good fans - low noise .. there are probably better
(quieter) you could get, but PanaFlo's are very good and relatively
inexpensive. They also sell them at SVC. You would need a 120 mm fan for
the 120 cooler.

They give you some thermal grease .. which is very good .. you can goggle
and see that it is as good or better than AS5.

Thermalright makes some really good stuff ... do a google on them and it is
positive. You could do a goggle on your MB too with the 120 .. or 90 and
see what others are using and any feedback about them.

I replaced my CPU yesterday on my 939 MB .. I 'upgraded' from a FX53 to a FX
60. I turned the XP 90 180 degrees so it wasn't over my RAM now. I had
also replaced my 2x512 mb sticks with 2 1 gb sticks .. and I wanted to make
sure the RAM was good. If the new RAM was bad the prospect of taking the
cooler off and cleaning it all up and putting more grease back on and just
to change out the RAM was not appealing, not hard, just not fun. Some
people like the cooler hanging over the RAM and think that it adds a little
more ventilation to the memory .. I have plenty of ventilation in my case
anyway. Taking the XP 90 off and putting it back on was pretty easy .. the
clamps are done pretty good.
Good luck with whatever you get. You can spend a lot of money to get that
extra few degrees of cooling out of your system .. it is up to you whether
you really want to spend the extra cash to get there, and if it is really
worth it.
