Attachment, saving, default naming

I am not exactly sure this is an XP issue:
When I save an attachment to a folder containing a file created in the same
application, the name of the file automatically will default to the
previously existing file located in the folder.
Example: new pdf
step 1 type in name New123
Step 2 click save as
Step 3 chose folder and location
Step 4 dialog box appears, name New123 changes to name of previous pdf in
folder.

Juliann,
If, in the application you are using to create the file (attachment?), you
click on File > Save as, and browse to the folder you want to save it in.
Does the *automatic renaming* still occur?

Yes it does.

Well no, the procedure I outlined is not the same as yours.
After File > Save as, the dialogue box appears with a folder, typically My
Documents, as the target folder and you have to give it a name. There is no
opportunity to name it before this point unless you are creating the file on
the right click > New menu when you would ordinarily choose File > Save
after editing.

I cannot think of why this might happen if there is indeed some unexpected
behavior, you may have to reinstall the
effected apps or restore your system to before the problem arose.
