Hi people, i have recently bought an Acer Aspire 3023 WLMi with
embedded ATI X700 graphics chip, connected with PCI express and with
128 MB memory.
And the problem is that is often freezes in openGL games like quake 3
and even in the lowest deatail and resolution :(

direct3d games are better, it frezes afdter very long play - for
example San Andreas hangs in 3 or more hours, but it sucks.

Why this happens? do you have any vlue or solution, did something
similar happen to you?

Thanks,

Juraj

Hi!

I have a Clevo M400 with an X700 PCI express and 256 MB memory. I can play
games for hours without any crashes (Cold Fear, GTA SA, Juiced, Star Wars:
Republic Commandos). My notebook has 3 active fans on the bottom and big
cooling slots to the sides and the rear. While playing it gets quite loud
and hot after some time.
Maybe your notebook gets too hot after a while and crashes? What drivers are
you using? The ones supplied from Acer or new drivers from the ATI site?
Lately ATI provides mobilioty drivers too.

Good luck!
Chris

Now i know what was the problem. It was overheating, as usual.
I solved the problem by the way that i did the opposite of overclocking
-> downclocking, or however it's called. I downloaded ATI Tool and set
the clock down from 300/350 (chip/mem) to 200/250 and it works OK. I
still have 175 fps in quake 3 timedemo on settings 1280x800, 32 bpp,
highest details.
But thanks for help anyway.

Hi!
I have the same laptop, but i havent done any 'long hours' game play to
see if i will also have overheating problems. My question is, how much
RAM do u have and u can play doom 3 in such resolution and high detail.
I have the factory installed 512MB and at even at a resolution of
1024x768 and with ultra high quality details it is almost impossible to
play.
I have settled down to 800x600 and medium quality for the time being...
Cheers!
