Ati Radeon x1600 series 512mb

I downloaded the Catalyst® Beta Display Driver for Windows Vista RTM from the
website. I have
a Ati Radeon X1600 Series with 512MB (AGP). I have seen multiple people
complaining about installation problems with this version of cards. I still
can't find a solution for this problem. The BSOD comes up after the install.
Does Microsoft have any answers for this problem?? I know it has been a
problem since RC1, and I have never seen an answer for this problem. It is
not only a Sapphire card that is a problem. Other cards have shown this same
problem. The problem occurs right around the time
of the reboot for the 1st start time up. Unfortunately, the blue screen of
death happens right around then. I never get a chance to select any drivers,
since the crash occurs then. I did see it say that there was a problem with
video something, but the BSOD goes away very quickly.
Please help!! before they sell original windows vista on Febuary i need fix
it before i buy original or should i go back windows xp pro x64 edtition and
windows xp home edition

My computer system is Windows Vista Ulimate RC1 5600 Build
Amd Athlon 64 Processor 3700+ 2.20ghz
3gb of memory ram
Motherboard Asrock 939A8-M
Ati Radeon x1600 series 512mb APG
LG DVD-RAM
Sony DVD-RW
250 gb platium IDE
2 x 200gb SATA Marxtor

I am using a card like this for one of my machines and I don't have any
issue
However, my card is not AGP - it is PCI Express

There were many video driver concerns with RC1 with ATI drivers.
With Vista RTM on my laptop with ATI video, I haven't had any problems.
During startup hit F8 to disable reboot after a BSOD, so that you can get
information on the cause. Another problem may be running RTM drivers on a
beta RC1.

I am using the ATI X1600 on Vista RC2 P4 3.7Ghz (overclocked 3.4 Ghz P4)
with no problems. I am still trying to push it further. It is stable playing
Battlefield 2142 with no problems. Now that's taxing the processor and
graphics card to the max.

Maybe global warming is caused by my PC This computer is HOT! Dammit!

ATI came out to say not to use those drivers. Check the noted on ATI web site.

Add me to that list. I posted earlier that the drivers I downloaded from ATI
don't even detect my 9600XT, plus any time I open a picture or run the
system evaluation, the system hangs.

I also read today that Vista tends to uncover problems with bad memory that
XP wouldn't find, so I'm going to check that out as well before blaming
everything on the video drivers.

He may be having the same problem I was having:

I own 2 X1600 Pro AGP video cards, one with 256MB of video memory (Diablo
Tek) and one with 512MB of video memory (Made by ATI). (Serial No.
180612908506) The 256MB card works great installing and using Windows Vista
RTM Build 6000 but the 512MB card causes the OS installation to abort just
prior to OS completion each and every time with the blue screen of death. The
error flashed quickly then the system shuts down. The error msg is:

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a
problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the
hardware incorrectly.

Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

I have been in contact with others on the Internet who have the same error.
Now that I'm using the RTM build 6000 of Windows Vista this error needs to be
corrected. (Not Beta software)

This problem most likely isn't the video card because I returned the first
card and got the same error with the new card.


This problem seems to occurring on some "AGP" 512Mb X1600 Pro Video cards.

The ATI drivers from the web site are not involved because the problem
occurs during the Windows Vista install completes. You can't install a driver
until Vista has been installed.

The fix for me was to upgrade my system and use a PCIe ATI Video card. I
didn't wan't to use another X1600 Pro 256MB eventhough that card worked. (It
was a diablo Tek brand)

My ATI X1650 Pro 512MB PCIe card works fine.

I have the PCI-E Version of this (x1600 Pro 512), I got a BSOD after install
of the catalyst Control Center & have recieved 2 BSODs since. Vista reports
it is an issue witht eCatalyst Control Center & points to ATI's ste saying a
solution exists there, but i have not been able to find the solution. I have
the latest drivers for Vists x32.

Anyone else?
