ATI Device Detection icon

Andre

I don't know why but I have a new icon in the task bar.
This icon appears to be "Ati Device Detection" and let me only the choice
into "Help, About and Exit" by pressing the right button of the mouse on.
No function by the left click.

What's the utility of this icon or application ?
How to avoid to load it at stratup ?

Any help ?

Thanks ?

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has this icon and doesn't know
what it's for. It's probably for future use since it seems to have no
useful purpose right now.

Andre,
You did not mention the OS you are running so I will tell you what I did
with XP.

1 - Right Click MY COMPUTER select MANAGE \ SERVICES AND APPLICATION on
the right hand panel double click ATI HOTKEY POLLER set Startup type to
DISABLED and apply. Don't touch the ATI SmartGART service. Exit.

2 - Right click on the DESKTOP select PROPERTIES \ SETTINGS \ ADVANCED in
the OPTIONS tab deselect "Reactivate Warnings" and deselect "Enable ATI
Taskbar Icon Application" On my system I also select the "Disable Quick
Resolution"

This way I am sure I don't have a bunch of ATI crap running that does not
need to be.

What's with the manufacturers these days ? Every time you install a new
piece of hardware it installs so much crap you didn't ask for, you just want
to un-install it ? Each new piece of HW thinks it's the KING of your PC.

I hope that helps you out.

David
