Athlon 64 4000+

I herd that a Athlon 64 4000+ is a re badged Athlon 64 FX53 processor,
is that true?

Also, what is the difference between a Athlon 64 4000+ (Clawhammer) vs.
a Athlon 64 4000+ (San Diego)?

Thanks in advance.

The FX is just the highest speed grade of the A64, it's not a different
core. The 4000+ was once classified as an FX, not any more.

The San Diego is a 90nm core, the Clawhammer 130nm. You want the 90nm
part, it uses less power and has some minor improvements to the core.

I've owned neither a 4000+ or an FX53, but I've read that they are quite
similar. The 4000+ would have a maximum multiplier setting of 12 (12X200 =
2400 MHz), while the FX53 was supposed to be unlocked. That's of interest
mainly to overclockers.

As another poster remarked, the San Diego (90 nm) chip is preferred,
although some Socket 939 boards need a BIOS update to support it.
