ATEN AF 152 Printer Switch with Xerox and HP printer

I have two printers, a HP 570 and a Xerox M950. I used
both these computers on Windows 95 and Windows 98 with an
ATEN AF152 switch with no problems. But I cannot use
them with this switch on my current computer, a HP
Pavillion 555E with Windows XP. I've tried repeatedly
since I got the computer in June, and it just gets so
confused I have restored my printers about three times
since then. I wonder if it might not have something to
do with pooling. Xerox has some information
about "resolving parallel Communications Problems", but
they are talking about using a USB cable. I will try to
attach what I gleaned from the xerox site. Perhaps there
is some other option that I don't know about. I don't
think it has anything to do with sharing, I use only the
one computer for both printers. I find a definition of
pooling under help, but nothing about how to use it.

Pooling is when you use one software printer (Print Queue) to target
multiple printers that use the same driver.

There is a KB article on an HP Pavilion and the parallel port that may be
relevant
