ata hard drive

i run win xp pro ,i already have 2 (80 and 30GB0IDE hard
drives, i have installed a MAXTOR 120GB Serial ATA hard
drive.My mother board does support serail ata hard drives.
The problem is that I am unable to format this drive, no
matter which software i use, I have tried XP, Maxtor
software, Dos , partition magic 8.0, nothing seems to
work.Any ideas. thanks.

"Nothing seems to work" does not tell us anything of use.

Is the SATA drive visible in your system BIOS? In XP's disk management?
Which motherboard are we talking about? Have you checked your motherboard
manual for BIOS settings, they may need to be changed to allow the use of
the SATA drive?
