At start-up

I have a problem with windows at start-up. it slows down
quite a bit, in fact, it will completely freeze up,
saying every program is (Not Responding). i've gone
into "msconfig" at the run menu, and taken away all but 3
programs to launch at start-up, yet i still have this
problem. i've tryed searching for ad-ware, with ad-
aware6, but it still doesn't help. it seems that any
internet related programs (Messenger, Explorer) will
become unresponsive after i connect to the internet. if i
try to launch a program (internet-related or not) after i
have connected, it shows that it's working in the
background, but nothing starts up. i have to launch
Messenger and Explorer, before i connect to the internet,
and even then they become unresponsive, then i have to
hard-boot because normal shut-down doesn't work either.
i'm on a 10.0mbps connection, if that helps any. please
help me out, i'm getting really annoyed by this querk.
