asx files will not import into MM

title says all...is there a way to get asx files into movie maker? they play
w/ WMP, so I figure they should be editable w/ MM.

if not, is there a way to convert an asx into wmv or asf?

try opening the asx file with Notepad and seeing if there's a pointer to the
video file you want...

No joy...the file is garbaldy-gook (binary?) it is a 34MB video file I
downloaded. I wanted to edit it down.

As far as I'm aware the asx file is the meta data file, not the actual
video/audio file.
Where did it come from?
