ASUS P4SE & PC3200 RAM..Will it work

Josh Jacobs

I am wondering if I can use PC3200 Ram on my board. It only supports
PC2700, but it is on sale and will allow me to upgrade in the future. It
seems stable, although a memCheck showed over 45000 errors. Is it a bad
idea to keep using this RAM? Will it overwork my processor (Celeron 2.0)?
Thanks,
Josh

If I can step in here, this isn't the case. My buddy Josh just lent me this
same stick and I put it in an Abit IT7 (i845 chipset). Memtest86 showed no
errors in my config. However, I could not bump the RAM frequency above
133MHz and still POST, but the stick should be able to easily do 200MHz. I
have some PC2100 that is capable of 144HMz, so the board is not the problem.
I also bumped the voltage up to 2.6 and 2.7 and still could not POST. The
stick is a Kingston ValueRam 3-4-4-4, but both Josh and I have boards that
can't do anything above CAS 2.5, so maybe these timings are not supported
with our boards. Is this the heart of the issue?
