Asus P4P800 vs MSI Neo2-PFS (Platinum Edition)

Does anyone have any info on comparisons? They both appear to be very similar, use the same 865 chipset, onboard gigabit lan
and audio. I can't really see any difference in the boards, except the prices. The Asus is $110, and the MSI is $85.

I would appreciate any feedback.

Here are the board links:

MSI: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/...l.asp?model=865PE_Neo2-PFS_(Platinum_Edition)

Asus: http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4p800/overview.htm

U have to include the (platinum edition) in the msi link for it to work.

Looking on Newegg, I think the PFS has ICH5 (no SATA RAID, just two
SATA interfaces) and the PFISR has ICH5R (SATA RAID possible). The
PFS is $80 and the PFISR is $122. The P4P800 has ICH5R and is $106.
Personally, I don't see much to recommend the RAID, unless you are
using it for a Photoshop swap disk. (Small file transfers are dominated
by seek time, so large file transfers would be the justification
for a RAID.)

The Newegg entries have a review link, and the customers who bought
the PFS seem pretty happy. I went to the MSI site and tried to download
the manual, but I cannot find it ?

About the only other issue I can suggest you research, is the warranty.
How easy is it to RMA and how long are you covered ? None of these
companies is perfect when it comes to customer support.

I love my ASUS board. I've only owned one MSI motherboard, but it was a
piece of shit. Then again it was based on the LX chipset which is painfully
slow, but it had other problems too.

I always go with ASUS now.

I used many MSI boards (1k and up) and I'm really glad that I use Asus
boards now. I had several big problem with MSI boards and now I see them all
returning with the condensators compleet blowed up... (Like K7 series and
the MS-6309). So, go for Asus and never call the MSI name here again ;-)
